Like almost every author I know, I have besieged of late by emails from scammer book marketers, using AI to heap praise on one or more of my books, before suggesting they can help me get more visibility and sales, by taking advantages of one of their marketing packages (up to $4000 worth) or appearing at their not-real book club (again, by paying for the privilege).
In a week where I received a royalty payment of 58 cents (yes, cents, not dollars), I could find these emails annoying, but, having been busy deleting and blocking, I thought I might use some of their lovely ‘feedback’ to have a little fun.
So, I’ve started making very quick, unedited, unrehearsed clips where I read some of the feedback and, where needed, correct it. It’s a bit of silliness, but also a way of turning these time wasters’ efforts on its head.
I’ve posted the first two on Instagram if you are interested. The first one is about what one spammy scammer said about The Riding Gallery:

And the second is a combination of two bits of feedback about Queen Narelle:

Fellow authors, I feel your pain in the effort it takes to wade through so much spammy scam stuff.
Readers, if you haven’t read these books and want to give them some love they are both still in print and available from your local bookstores, online or, if you’d like a signed copy, direct from me.

And spammy scammers? Go away!
