It’s Poetry Friday, my favourite day of the week.
Last week I was lucky enough to have a holiday in Singapore, where I spent five days seeing amazing sights, eating amazing food, doing exciting things (some involving roller-coasters) and smiling a lot.
I came home with lots of memories and about a bajillion photos. I’ve been busy sorting through these and will be sharing some here on the blog in coming weeks. Of course, if I can combine a photo with a poem, even better.
So, here’s the first, based on this beauty I met face to face at the Singapore Zoo.
Today’s Poetry Friday roundup is hosted by Catherine at Reading to the Core. Head over there to see what other poetry goodies have been shared.

Someday, I’d like to write these words, “Last week I was lucky enough to have a holiday in Singapore.” And while I’m wishing, I’d like to meet that iguana!!
Diane Mayr says
I can’t wait to see your photos! Any other wrinkly creatures we should be on the look-out for? The iguana looks like he’s wearing an abundance of corduroy!
Sally says
Thanks Diane. Plenty of furry, scaly, feathery creatures, plus lights and buildings and flowers and food and…
Tara says
Well, that is quite a creature – perfect poem for that face!
Sally says
Thanks Tara.

This is a delightful combination Sally. Do you want to create one for the gallery, Winter Wanderings, that I am designing? Your perspective of winter is so different than ours here in the New York so I thought it would be fun to capture yours. If you do decide to send me one please state where the photo is taken. I love the cranky looking fellow you met.
Sally says
Will certainly try Carol. Will have a look back through my poems and see if I have a good winter one that inspires something. Thanks for visiting!

That is a reptile with attitude. I like him! Or her. Sounds like a dream vacay. Will look forward to more pictures.
Sally says
Thanks Brenda.

Hmmm… not sure I’d like to be face-to-face with that particular critter. (I bet he has pretty bad breath too.) But I love how you’ve captured the moment with your illustrated poem, Sally. Looking forward to more photos and poems from Singapore!
Sally says
Thanks Michelle. S/he was incredibly placid. The Rianforest display was like a giant aviary, so we could walk right up to him.
Linda Baie says
Sounds like a great trip, Sally. That iguana actually looks sweet to me, so I wonder what he thinks of you as he looks. Love your back and forth poem.
Sally says
Thanks Linda. Yes, I was pretty fond of him, but was interested to see how many people were scared.

Thanks so much for sharing the fruits of your holiday with us! I love the word “bajillion,” and the gift implied of so many more lively poetry-poems. If only our animal comrades could talk; wouldn’t it be fun to hear them describe us? Meanwhile, your fanciful poem is a special treat this PF morn. God bless you; thanks!
Sally says
Thankyou! I recently saw an illustration for the word ‘zoo’ (in a book by Armin Greder) which showed only the bars of a cage and the humans looking through. Of course the viewer/reader is left to podner is tehre an animal in the cage looking at the humans, or is it the people who are caged? At it’s simplest level, it makes you wonder what the naimals do think of the people looking at them.
Robyn Hood Black says
What a great expression you’ve captured, Sally, in the picture as well as the words! Thanks for sharing. Your trip sounds fantastic, and we’ll look forward to your further inspirations from it…. Happy Poetry Friday!
Sally says
Thanks Robyn. I couldn’t believe the iguana would let me get so close.

That is one fierce looking iguana! Reptiles are not my favorite, but your poem is terrific! Looking forward to seeing more photos and reading more poems inspired by your trip.
Sally says
Thanks Catherine. And thanks for hosting the Poetry Friday roundup.
