Things that made me smile this gorgeous February morning:

  1. The tousleheadedness of assorted Murphlets as they came out of their rooms after I woke them. Some mornings this worries me (how will we ever get it tidy in time for school), but this morning it just reminded me of when they were little.
  2. Seeing a pod of dolphins just off shore when I walked along the beach. I love dolphins.
  3. Working out a way back into a story I’ve had on hold for 18 months, because I couldn’t figure out where to go  to fix it. Beach air works wonders!
  4. The dogs on the beach out walking/splashing with their owners. I swear some of them were smiling at me – so I smiled back.
  5. Being alive

Things that made me smile this morning

Another glorious Monday morning in Murphy-world.

Things that made me smile this morning:

One. Waking up with the knowledge that my beloved is here with me for another week, instead of 300km away like he usually is on Mondays.

Two. Diving into my pool and swimming a dozen laps of butterfly (it is not a big pool). At the start of the summer I could manage about 5.

Three. Swimming along the bottom of the pool and watching the way the bubbles rose to the surface – wearing goggles opens up a whole underwater perspective.

Four. The chapters of  today’s book I read over breakfast and morning coffee.

Five. The dragon illustration fellow author (and all round nice person) Gabrielle Wang emailed me to wish me a happy Chinese New Year – along with a rejoinder not to sweep the floor today, lest I sweep away my good luck. An excuse not to sweep the floor? Love it!

Things that made me smile this morning

One. The willy wagtail hopping up the path in front of me on my morning walk. It was probably trying to scare me away, but instead it made me laugh. So cute!
Two. Memories of having coffee yesterday with one of my sisters and her husband, and the knowledge that I now have two sisters living in coffee distance, as well as my parents.
Three. The industry in my backyard – Murphlet 6 mowing the lawn (one of his favourite things to do – and he’s good at it, too) supervised by his father, followed by beloved vacuuming the pool. 
Four. Starting book number 11 in my 366 day challenge over my morning coffee. Setting myself this challenge has not only ramped up my reading but also my enjoyment of reading.
Five.  Opening my Christmas shortbreads to eat my morning coffee. I love shortbread biscuits and these were a Christmas pressie from Murphlet 5. Yum!

Things that made me smile this morning

One. The sight of the dozen roses my beloved sent me yesterday for our wedding anniversary, and the reminder this gave me that he’s coming home tonight for three whole weeks.
Two. The sound of my  youngest coming in to say good morning (and have a cuddle) as soon as he realised I was up This used to happen every morning, but he’s growing up…
Three. The smell of the peppermint trees and the tuart forest on my morning walk.
Four. The sight of a kelpie puppy clambering onto a chair then onto his people’s outdoor table – then looking around to see if anyone was watching. I was, little puppy!
Five. Getting caught in a little shower of rain, composing this sentence in my head, then getting dumped on my a huge cloud a few seconds later. What’s a little water between friends, hey?
