It’s Poetry Friday again and, since the sun has finally decided to put in an appearance, I thought I’d share another beach poem. I wrote this one a while ago, but thought I’d match it with some of my more recent photos (though I didn’t have a starfish picture so it doesn’t match up completely).
Anyway, here it is:
And here’s the poem if you’d prfer to read it for yourself”
Trash and Treasure
Each night
the sea
deposits her rubbish
along the shore:
shells,
sponge
even a starfish
she no longer needs.
In the morning
her trash becomes my treasure.

Your close bond to the shore comes up again and again, Sally. I love how your poems are kind of like journal entries.
Sally says
Thanks Michelle. Th beach is my go-to place.

At the ripe old age of 67, I still love to pick up the sea’s rubbish! Do you live near the sea or are the photos from a vacation destination?
Sally says
Hi DIane. Yes, I am lucky enough to live close to the beach, so these photos are all local.

Sally, thank you so much for sharing your treasure with us today! Beaches provide a neverending source of wonder, don’t they?
Sally says
That they do Irene. I saw whales from my beach today. Amazing!

I live in Maine where this is a reality for me regularly. Your voice helped me see it the way you do. I’m tempted to try the voice for next week’s Poetry Friday.
Sally says
Oh do use your voice – I would love to hear you!

The winter rainstorms have started with a vengeance, and as I sit curled up listening to the driving rain, wishing I didn’t have to venture outside to work, I’m going to focus on your beachy words instead!
Sally says
Thanks Jane. I hope I warmed your day a little 🙂
Linda Baie says
I too love hearing your voice, Sally, and there are leftovers that become our treasures on the beach. I do love seeing where you get to walk on the beach. Lovely pics and words.
